Much of the yoga that we practice in North America is a Yang in nature. It is active, creates heat in the body, and engages muscle strength. By contrast, Yin Yoga is slow and steady with a sense of calm and surrender. This is not to say it is easy. The yin areas of the body generally targeted in the practice are between the knees and navel, the lower body. Since poses are held for a long period of time (usually at least four minutes) to target deep ligaments and connective tissues , there are fewer poses that one can even attempt in one session, compared to the yang styles of yoga where one pose may be held for as little as five breaths. There are 3 main principles in Yin Yoga that we apply in the practice:

- Come to Your Appropriate Edge
- Be still and allow muscles to be soft
- Hold each shape for a period of time

In Yin flow class we will start by unwinding the body with breath led movement and drift off into deep yin relaxation… we work on a subtle level to awaken the senses with aromatherapy and music. Beginner and advanced students are welcome!
